A Day at the Beach!

We decided to be a little crazy and drive to the beach for the day. We loaded up the car with snacks, movies, beach towels, a picnic lunch and off we went to Hilton Head. It is a strange drive as it's 3 hours and the roads go through the little towns and the middle of no where. Sadly, no matter which way you go, it's all about the same, but it's just s strange drive.... I was a little worried once we got to the beach that the long drive wouldn't be worth it, but I was wrong! Nana was in pure heaven at the beach. If she could have escaped and stayed there for another week, I'm sure she would have!

Caroline and Nicholas jumped right into the waves and seemed to be totally comfortable. They've never really been to a beach like this, but they loved it too! At one point a wave crashed over Nicholas and he was a little hesitant to go out too far, but Papa would carry him and he'd be fine. Caroline on the other hand, put on her snorkle mask and put a floaty around her waist and was in pure heaven. The waves kept pushing her slowly down the beach and she couldn't figure out why we kept telling her to stay near us.. she just loved it! I can't wait till we get the chance to get Joe out to the beach. I only wish it was closer! A little far for a day trip, I would do it again if that was the only time we could do it!

Little Miss Molly on the other hand, hated the beach! She did not like the sand one bit! And it got everywhere! Her toes, her hands, her cheeks, her binki.. she was NOT happy. Granted she didn't have a nap either, but even after I took her up and washed all the sand off her, she didn't want to go back to the beach.

"mama get it off my toes!!!"

On the way down to the public beach there is a little spray fountain for the kids to play in. It was the perfect spot to go after playing in the sand to cool off and rinse off! At one point during the afternoon just Molly and I went up and played and she was much happier then on the beach!

There was also a great area with porch swings and adirondack chairs to relax in before or after the beach. The kids got all rinsed off and dressed and then went and played with Nana and Papa.

Nana and her girls!

We left the beach and went to Harbor Town to see the Lighthouse and get some ice cream. It was the perfect day to get dessert before dinner!
After wandering Harbor Town for a little bit we headed down to the South Beach Marina and had dinner at the Salty Dog... it's one of those places where the food isn't necessisarily that great, but it's some where that everybody goes, and everyone has a t-shirt from.. so we went :)

Our view from our table....
All in all it was a great day at the beach. If only we could have a house there, or afford to rent a house whenever we wanted :) We're looking forward to going back soon!
